KERRY WALLS

Leadership Through
Authentic Connection

BIO

Kerry’s unique background in education, small business and counseling psychology, combined with her experience as a successful CEO fuels her approach to coaching high performing and high potential leaders allowing them to create breakthrough results in their businesses and careers.

A
s a business coach in a Leadership Development consulting firm, Kerry moved up from individual consultant to CEO, leading the company when the founder stepped out of the business. She supported key executives of an anchor client to increase their revenues by 25%, to over 20 million.

Kerry h
as spent the majority of her career focused on building family businesses and partnerships, she understands the nuances and common challenges. Her experience has taught her the importance of people, relationships, communication, and coordinated action as the foundation for all business success. Replicating the wisdom and values of the founder while allowing the next generation of leadership the latitude to bring their own approach to an established business creates fulfillment and ingenuity – this delicate balance is worth honoring to create loyalty and ownership.

Does Your Coach Truly LISTEN to you?

  • A good coach will spend more time listening than talking. They want to understand YOU as a person individually.
  • They won't treat you like you're part of a formula.
  • They will show you that they've heard you by addressing your unique needs.
  • Do you feel better and more hopeful for having spoken to them with new action to take?

    Points of Caution
  1. Feel sold to or pitched to? RUN.
  2. Do you feel disrespected, judged, or talked down to? It may not be good fit.
  3. Does the coach have a track record of improving performance?

How Women Get In Their Own Way and What to Do About It

Here are some of the patterns I've noticed from working with women over the last 20 years
They are all successful, self aware, love to learn, and value colleagues and staff. In spite of all these great qualities there are common things that get in their way.

Pitfall #1 - They take things personally

What to do about it
  • Separate facts from your opinion
  • Respond in a resilient professional way. Use facts and business language.
  • Interrupt Intention Invention

Pitfall #2 - We second guess ourselves a lot

What to do about it
  • Practice trusting yourself vs. second guessing yourself
  • Ask yourself, what would a woman who trusts herself do now or say now?
  • Use a trusted advisor, colleagues, friends to run things by

Pitfall #3 - We look inward too much

What to do about it
  • We can take too much responsibility and blame ourselves
  • Be an observer - look outside ourselves
  • Write down triggers
  • Lighten up! Don't take things so seriously

Pitfall #4 - Not owning our value and Accomplishments

What we can do about it
  • Write down 3 accomplishments at the end of each day
  • Reflect and Celebrate - create celebration habits
  • Request to be acknowledged - it still matters
  • Dialogue with others - someone needs to listen deeply to you to help you see your value and own it
